What does the FSoE abbreviation actually mean?
The FSoE abbreviation means Failsafe over EtherCAT.
It is often incorrectly referred to as “Functional Safety over EtherCAT”, but this is wrong.
In the official EtherCAT specification, available on reqeust for ETG (EtherCAT Technology Group) members (free of charge), in ETG.5100 S (D) V1.2.0, Section 4.2.2 it clearly defines FSoE as Failsafe over EtherCAT, leaving absolutely no room for interpretation.
